Durawa w/ John Arthur Martinez @ El Mercado (01/23/2018)

We love it when the band is obviously having fun entertaining us from the stage.  Tonight, it seemed they were having so much fun with each other, I’m not sure an audience was even necessary.  We always say the music was “magic”…..tonight it was.  Six musicians….that are the top of their profession when it comes to talent…..recognizing and enjoying that same talent in each other.

Ernie Durawa, Will Knaak, and Chris Alcaraz kicked it off.  Chris is recovering from cold/allergies and restricted his singing to harmonies and whistling but, that bass playing was awesome.  Will sang a song he wrote with his dad, George, that was inspired by everyone’s favorite hangout, Giddy Ups and it’s owner, Nancy.  The guys ended their portion of the show with some Bass Yoga.  Can’t explain it…you’ll just have to look at the pictures.  😊

Then, John Arthur Martinez took the stage and brought the house down.  John always amazes us and tonight was no different.  He also brought along Rojas El Guitarrista (also known as Caleb 😊) to play the Spanish guitar.  I won’t say Rojas and Will were having fun but we sure saw a lot of smiles, nods, and fist bumps.  He also called on Luis to play a little percussion with them.  He and Ernie were amazing together.

Rojas actually did a Facebook live of their performance that you can watch at  Rojas El Guitarrista Facebook videos!

Hopefully, the pictures show some more of the fun.  Although, I do apologize for Rojas looking like a ghost.  It’s just a trick of the lighting…..honest!

Songwriters Across Texas Supper Club (09/07/17)

Last night, Songwriters Across Texas Supper Club honored two gentlemen that have always supported the local musicians/songwriters….Joe Ables, the owner of The Saxon Pub, and Terry Boothe, founder of Texas Heritage Songwriters’ AssociationJohn Arthur Martinez was the musical guest. Glen Collins did a great job hosting. Many thanks to Marianna Marchesini and her staff for a great meal, venue, and continued support of live music. Most of all, thanks to Pitt Garrett and Tonya Benson…..another great show pulled together by you two!! 🙂

ASG Benefit @ Threadgills (04/06/2011)

The Austin Songwriters Group is made up of great song writers……singers……musicians……PEOPLE!  Every year, they celebrate Merle Haggard’s birthday by throwing a big ol’ party to help a deserving cause.  This year, that cause was to help raise money to help cover the medical expenses of one our friends, Ted Branson.  Besides being one of the favorite DJs on KOOP radio here in Austin, Ted and his lovely wife, Linda, actively support the music community in ways most of us will never know.

Linda had said she’d save us a seat, but we figured she might forget with everything else going on and sure wouldn’t have blamed her.  We should’ve known better!!  She not only remembered,  she had us in the front row, just right for getting great photos IF we were great photographers!  🙂

The list of performers was like a Who’s Who of Austin Music.  Some our old friends, some we knew, some we knew-of, some we didn’t know, and all of them great.  Then, there was everyone in the audience!  So good to visit with friends we hadn’t seen in a while.  Special thanks to Winker for finding our keys although how we lost that huge key ring is a mystery to us…..just glad he found them.  🙂  Thanks, too, to Brent for introducing us to some pretty special people…..as if he wasn’t special enough!!

It was a perfect Austin spring evening!!  Hugs to all that worked so hard to put on the show.  Love to Ted and Linda as we keep them in our hearts and prayers.  Apologies to anyone whose name is misspelled or lost.  🙂
