Since 2000, Ricky has had Birthday Bash at Club 21 in Uhland, TX. This year, there was even more to celebrate. Ricky’s latest album A Step in the Right Direction was released three weeks earlier. The first single, Countin’ On a Barstool had just hit 31 on the charts the previous week.
Ricky and the guys played at the Broken Spoke the night before….Ricky’s actual birthday. A lot of ‘celebrating’ had taken place there so everyone was a little more ‘subdued’ this night. But, the crowd made up for them. Both Friday and Saturday were great shows, but, Ricky and the guys never do a bad one!
Taking lessons from Dobie’s photography manual, I chopped off Ricky’s head!
You can always count on dancin’ at Ricky’s shows
The ‘Birthday Boy’ himself…..this time with his entire head!
Dale adds to the sound of the band with his own songs and stepping up for some great 3 part harmonies with Ricky and Kenny.
Kenny G always seems to get back in a corner with his steel, but zoom lenses are great for getting pictures of him anyway!
The dance floor was full almost all night
One little cowboy was getting dance lessons from Dad
Time to use the lessons! He’s already learned the most important one…….all the girls wanna dance!!
These young men recently returned from the war in Iraq. They wanted to hear A Step in the Right Direction before leaving to get back to base.
Of course, Ricky honored their request after honoring them before the entire audience.
A quick snapshot when the song was over.
Then Ricky stopped the show to invite them up on stage for a picture with him.
Sorry, Bryon. This was supposed to be a picture of you, but you moved. At least your bow posed politely for me!
Ronnie did Last Date for us.
Bernie is usually so busy during the show making sure everything is just right. It was nice to see him get to sit down and enjoy a Kenny song.
All the times we’ve been to Club 21, this was the first time I noticed the boot on the wall.
I thought I’d tipped the camera when I took this, but, I didn’t. The guys really were all leaning the same way!!
Ricky did a great Kevin Fowler imitation complete with the eye rolling!!
But, then, he was back to singing like…..like…..well……like Ricky!!
Brad came up to help celebrate
Ricky convinced him to step up to the mic.
Then, they ended the show with the signature I Ain’t Turnin’ Back.
They call Caleb an ‘animal’ on the drums. This night, they actually put him in a ‘cage’.
